Meteorologist Speaks out About ‘Bullying’ After Viewers Body-Shame Her During Pregnancy

A meteorologist is speaking out after she says viewers body-shamed her during her pregnancy.

Ashlee Baracy announced her pregnancy on-air in February, according to Today. And the expectant mom immediately received negative comments about her appearance, she said.

“It started with comments like, ‘I thought your face looked fuller.’ Someone warned me that I was gaining too much weight and to ‘watch my heart,’ and another said I was covering up temperatures on the weather map during my broadcasts.”

Others told her to “buy bigger clothes.”

She said that social media has made it easy for critics to contact her, unlike years ago, when they needed a phone number to reach out to the news station.

The expectant mom told Today:

“Adults need to look in the mirror and realize that self-image issues and the bullying epidemic in our youth starts with the example we are setting. If a child hears their parent refer to someone on TV as ‘fat,’ what might the same child think of themselves when they look in the mirror or how will the perceive others and treat them in the future?”

Though Baracy said the comments have made her “shed a few tears,” she doesn’t want to feel like the victim.

The meteorologist started sharing some of the hateful comments she received on social media in order to point out why they’re wrong.

This guy must think he’s a comedian. Smh… let’s at least start with spelling my name right. ?

Baracy quickly received a flood of support and now wants to use her voice to inspire others who may be facing similar issues.

She told the Columbus Dispatch:

“If I can use my voice to make things better, I will do that. I hope this is a platform where we can talk more about it, because there are many women who deal with it.”

Baracy is expecting a baby boy in August.
